Funds stolen by the Akayevs returned to the Kyrgyz treasury

Return of some of the funds "stolen by Askar Akayev's family" to the state treasury was announced at the conference of leaders of Kyrgyz law enforcement agencies. The state reclaimed more than $7 million worth of funds and over 1.04 billion soms worth of assets. According to Deputy Prosecutor General Zhumadil Makeshov, investigations of 102 criminal cases against the former president and his family are under way.

According to what information Ferghana.Ru has compiled, Erkindik leader Topchubek Turgunaliyev appealed to the Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek demanding 100 million soms of a recompense from Akayev. Turgunaliyev claims that he was harassed by Akayev in 1999 and 2000 on fabricated charges of organization of an attempt on the president's life.

The politician also demands prosecution of the officials of the prosecutor's office, courts, and Interior Ministry who participated in the campaign mounted against him. Convicted for organization of an attempt on Akayev's life, Turgunaliyev spent more then three years behind the bars.
