RUSSIANS WILL HANDLE UZBEK URANIUM

Tekhsnabeksport and Rusburmash intend to establish a Russian-Uzbek joint venture to mine uranium in Aktau, a source in the government circles of Uzbekistan said. The Navoi Mining and Smelting (uranium production, enrichment, and export monopolist in the republic) and the State Committee for Geology and Mineral Resources as the deposit owner will become co-founders. Interim calculations show that the joint venture will be producing 300 tons uranium every year. Russian investments are expected on the level of $31 million.
