Cotton harvesting begins in Uzbekistan. The yield is expected to amount to 3.6 million tons of raw cotton, judging by the estimates made by specialists of the republican Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources. Farms accounted for 66% of the harvest in 2005. This figure is expected to reach 86% this year.
The state will buy half of what farms will produce at 360,000 sums a ton, almost 25% better than the last year price. The other half will be put up for sale in Uzbekistan and abroad.
