Uzbekneftegaz PR Department reports that natural gas imported from Uzbekistan will cost Kyrgyzstan $100 per 1,000 cubic meters as of January 1, 2007. These days, Kyrgyzstan is paying only $40.

The higher tariffs will have a noticeable effect on the Kyrgyz economy because over 70% of gas import comes precisely from Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan upped the gas price for Tajikistan to $100 per 1,000 cubic meters too.
