24.kg news agency quoted Galina Skripkina, the Akayevs' lawyer, that Bermet Akayeva signed recognizance not to leave and remain within reach of law enforcement agencies.
Akayeva was interrogated in the Kemin District Department of Internal Affairs on May 5. Saturday or not, the interrogation lasted between 10 a.m. and nearly 2 p.m.
Kemin law enforcement agencies are investigating mass disturbances on the premises and around the building of the district court on April 24. Charges under three articles of the Criminal Code (frustration of prosecution, contempt of court, and theft, destruction, or concealment of documents and seals) were pressed against the daughter of the former president of Kyrgyzstan.
Internet-newspaper Vzglyad reports that Akayeva may draw up to two years imprisonment. Akayeva herself claims that charges of organization of mass disturbances were pressed against several supporters of hers.
According to RIA-Novosti news agency, Akayeva is not supposed to leave Bishkek now. She must be at her registered address by nightfall.
24.kg phoned ex-president Askay Akayev who condemned what was happening in the country as "a campaign to suppress democratic and civil rights." "There is an undeniable connection with what happened on April 19. The authorities roughly dispersed mass protests and, convinced of their impunity, became even more feverishly active," Akayev said.
As far as the former president is concerned, charges against his daughter are groundless. "I'm convinced that they are invalid. It pains me to see her under constant physical and moral duress ever since April 28," Akayev said. "It's like a throwback to the era of Stalin and Beria when people were interrogated for 10-15 hours on end even on weekends."
"I'd like to remind the authorities that Russia and Europe are closely watching, and that all of the world - not only Kyrgyzstan as such - will draw its own conclusions," the former president said. "The case against Bermet will collapse, that much is clear, but the stain on the regime's repute will remain. That is why I'd like to tell the authorities, law enforcement agencies, and courts to stop all this lawlessness and harassment. Pinning the blame for everything on Bermet alone is wrong. It is the authorities that are supposed to deal with whatever problems exist."
