Gulnara Saitbayeva, Die Deutsche Welle correspondent in Uzbekistan, reports that the republican authorities control all transactions from abroad. Saitbayeva's source in local secret services claims that it is supposed to establish contacts between Uzbek journalists and human rights activists on the one hand and foreign organizations on the other.

According to Die Deutsche Welle, the Uzbek National Security Service has the capacity to track all transactions to Uzbekistan carried out by international financial systems.

Ferghana.Ru reports in the meantime that Uzbek secret services are determined to keep an eye on all transactions, even ones from the so called Gastarbeiters in Russia and other foreign countries. It is common knowledge that they send vast sums to their families in Uzbekistan. Information on transactions enables Uzbek secret services to keep everyone on the hook with threats to summon tax services.
