1,397 refugees registered in the Republic of Kyrgyzstan

According to AKIpress news agency, 1,397 refugees and 266 families compelled to seek shelter in Kyrgyzstan were registered on the territory of the republic on October 1, 2007.

Judging by the report made by the State Committee for Immigration and Employment, the same figures for October 1, 2006 were 3,088 and 704 (5,921 refugee and 1,133 families in 2005; 7,584 and 1,479 in 2004; 7,584 and 1392 in 2003). Immigration to Kyrgyzstan was the largest in 1997 - 16,707 refugees and 3,3967 families.

Kyrgyzstan has offered shelter to more than 20,000 refugees since 1993.
