The first meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh (national parliament) elected its new chairman.

Presidential Ak Jol nominated ex-State Secretary Adahan Madumarov. Eighty-seven lawmakers were present at the meeting and 79 of them voted "aye".

Social Democratic Party and Communist Party nominated no candidates for the post.

As the party of the parliamentary majority (it has 71 seat on the parliament), Ak Jol endorsed the prime minister nominated by the head of state. Acting minister of industry, energy, and fuel resources Igor Chudinov became the prime minister.

Following his endorsement by the party of the majority, President Kurmanbek Bakiyev signed the decree making Chudinov the premier.
