Kyrgyzstan: Murdered Alisher Saipov honored with award

Bishkek Press Club summarized 2007outcomes and took a decision to award with prizes 10 journalists and media representatives actively contributing to mass media development in Kyrgyzstan.
In particular, an independent journalist Alisher Saipov murdered in Osh in October 2007 was honored with an award recognizing his "Commitment to Profession".
The murder case of Alisher Saipov long representing the news agency Ferghana.Ru in the southern region of Kyrgyzstan is still uncovered despite Kurmanbek Bakiev's promise to take control of the case.
Six days after the murder the press release of the Interior Ministry of Kyrgyzstan tried to blacken Alisher's reputation by linking his name to Islamic extremism. The authorities never carried out a serious and impartial investigation of the murder of Alisher Saipov.
Alisher Saipov had cooperated with VOA, RFE\RL, news agency Ferghana.Ru at different times. In his independent reporting he lambasted the authoritarian regimes of the neighboring countries, interior policy of the official Tashkent, in particular.
Following the results of the preliminary investigation released by the Interior Minister a number of political leaders demanded the Kyrgyz authorities to hold an impartial investigation in the Alisher Saipov's murder. Alisher Saipov was 26 only. He had a baby daughter.
