The first international exhibition and fair “Oriental bazaar” has brought together some of the most versatile handcrafts from the Central Asia, China, India, Japan, Northern Africa, south-East Asia, Turkey and Middle East at the “Flakon” design factory between the 8th and 10th of April.

Sharafiddin Yusupov, famous ceramist from Rishtani, has sold most of his works before the opening. Hardly has he unpacked his boxes when everything has been swept away by a swarm of collectors. It is no wonder since Sharafiddin Yusupov is the full member of the Uzbekistan Academy of Fine Arts and his works have been purchased by the State Arts Museum of Uzbekistan, Museum of history and architecture of Samarkand, Kyrgyz national art gallery in Bishkek, Oriental arts museum in Moscow, Ethnography museum and the State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Ethnography museum in Tartu (Estonia) and numerous other foreign museums.

The exhibition stand by “Bazaar.Fergana.Ru” was a true show-stopper! We offered silk and carpets, furniture and dishware, “washcloths” from Uzbekistan and jam from Kyrgyzstan, souvenirs and toys…

Visitors swarming around the stand hosted by the promoter girls from the “Bodom” gallery which came all the way from Tashkent. Silk pillowcases above feature handmade embroidery.

Majority of visitors are women. Moscow women have been enchanted by the diversity of oriental fabrics and decorations.

Oriental cuisine presented by chefs from Afghanistan from the local Afghan community.

Partners of the exhibition: State Museum of Oriental Arts, Oriental School at the Oriental Studies Institute under the Russia Academy of Science, “Ligne de vie” Charity Fund.

Vast cultural program of the Oriental bazaar has been supported by the Iranian embassy, Cultural center at the Tajikistan’s embassy, Afghan community in Moscow, Indian embassy, Tartar cultural center.

“Oriental Bazaar” is an attractive forum for designing a new format of inter-ethnic communication” – said Boris Vinogradskiy (Chinese culture connoisseur, author and civil society activist) in support of the new project.

The exhibition has brought together handcrafts unseen by muscovites before. Organizers’ idea was to, quote, use this forum to embrace whatever has to deal with the dazzling and mysterious atmosphere of the East, unquote. According to the exhibition’s curator Lola Saifi, there is the ancient richest culture behind each and every oriental country unfamiliar to the most of Moscow citizens, unfortunately.

The exhibition’s organizer and curator Lola Saifi claims this bright and resonant event is going to come to the Russian capital twice a year. Next time, see you in fall! Don’t miss!
